Businesses 'must make social campaigns useful'

12th September 2008

Companies undertaking social media marketing strategies need to make sure that their campaigns offer value to consumers, it has been advised.

E-consultancy's Graham Charlton said that while usage of social media sites fell slightly at the start of the year, overall the market is showing healthy expansion, offering potential benefits for businesses that target social network users in the right way.

"There are opportunities for businesses, but it's important that companies who use social media are able to provide value for their users and don't use social media just for the sake of it," he remarked.

Mr Charlton also noted that the social media sector could see significant growth in the area of mobile services in the near future.

In related news, Facebook is currently in the process of launching a new design for its site following several months of user testing.

The social network recently announced that it now has more than 100 million users.
