Blogs 'are one of the best forms of online marketing'

Blogging can provide a key way for businesses to connect with prospective customers and build their brands online, it has been claimed.

Keeping a company blog can help companies to portray themselves as an authoritative voice within their respective industries and earn respect from the online community if done correctly, blogger Oli Barrett told the Telegraph.

He explained that businesses may find it useful to blog on up-and-coming trends within their sectors, adding: "Business owners could see it as an opportunity to share the latest news about their company or be seen as a leader in their industry, sharing their thoughts."

Keeping a blog can also have benefits for other parts of a company's search engine marketing strategy, according to Google engineer Matt Cutts.

He told USA Today earlier this year that a frequently updated blog can prove useful in boosting search engine optimisation.
