Google is the UK's favourite when it comes to brands, it has emerged.
Emerging at the top of a list of 500 businesses, the internet giant topped a Superbrands chart, ahead of the likes of Microsoft and the BBC, Brand Republic reports.
This comes despite a trend of British consumers tending to prefer home brands, such as BP and British Airways - something that was reflected in the rating as the top ten brands were all UK-born - with the exception of Google.
The search engine was also the only brand in the top 50 to have been created after 1990.
"British business opts for what it knows and trusts and as we head toward economic slowdown this is only going to become more important," commented Stephen Cheliotis, chairman of the Superbrands council.
Microsoft founder and chief executive Bill Gates recently claimed that the company aims to set up a new search engine to compete with Google, whether it acquires Yahoo! or not.
