Carers and people with disabilities find it easier to pursue paid employment alongside their duties thanks to widespread broadband penetration in the UK, one expert claims.
The availability of cheap broadband has proliferated in the UK in recent years, a development which the chief executive of Work Wise UK claims is good news for those who have found it difficult to access employment opportunities.
According to Phil Flaxton, technological advancements have enabled more people to work from home, whether on an entrepreneurial basis or for an employer.
"There are people who are perhaps carers or people with disabilities who would like to get back into the work pool but find it difficult to do," he explains.
Mr Flaxton cites the advancement of mobile technology as another crucial development in the drive to broaden access to employment opportunities.
Research from BT Business has found that there are more than two million home based companies in the UK.
