'71% of women' go online every day

9th November 2007

Women are using the internet as part of their daily routine, according to new research.

Data from the Women's Space survey, undertaken by IPC Media, reveals that social networking, dating and photo sharing are attractive to women using the internet.

Some 71 per cent of women go online and spend an average of 105 minutes every day, largely surfing during mornings and evenings.

The company identified six different types of user, including the beginner who wanted to keep up with her tech-savvy kids, the experienced surfer who was always keen to find out more and the socialite who uses the internet as an enhancement to her social life and leisure activities.

Amanda Wigginton of IPC said: "What women are doing online is a hugely testing question for a vast array of brands.

"There simply hasn't been the data to illustrate how UK women use the web."

Recent research for six of the UK's top mobile applications companies found that a third of women have used their mobile to surf the internet, compared with 47 per cent of men.
