Search Marketing and ROI

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

The company I work for is considering entering into online marketing to promote the product we manufacturer and sell directly to the consumer. There seems to be two different types of online marketing; Paid Search, and Organic Search. I was wondering which one of them gives the best Return on Investment; and what is the difference between them.  Thanks in advance

Mike

    Hi Mike,

Thank you for getting in touch.

Organic search – increasing your organic result visibility can take time and it can take anything from 3 to 6 months to achieve rankings in the search engines depending on the competitiveness of the market and the level of SEO work needed on your website. You may therefore not see a ROI for a few months, but once you have achieved rankings on the first page you should start to see an excellent ROI. The degree of tracking that we can implement now is second to none and therefore we are able to create a fully accountable SEO campaign so that you can really measure the impact of search. Read more in our SEO section.

Paid search – Paid search is different to organic search as you can get your website found in the search engines immediately which means you should be able to assess ROI a lot quicker than in organic search. PPC is fantastic at generating ROI based campaigns as it allows us to focus on a number of your KPIs, for example if you can afford to pay £5 per sale to make a profit then we can tailor you campaign to do exactly that. However you are paying per click and the market is live which makes it unpredictable and potentially expensive, therefore organic search maybe the better option.

Securing natural rankings should be a long term goal of any search campaign as you will no longer be paying per click - for essentially the same traffic. However, it’s about striking the right balance for you and your website and the business objectives of the company. Please feel free to contact one of the team to talk about this in more detail!

    Thanks

    Bev
