The seven days since the unveiling of the T-Mobile G1 have produced some interesting UK search patterns, according to Richard Seymour of Hitwise.
Writing in a blog post, the expert noted that the phone - which is the first to run Google's Android software - prompted more searches for 'google phone' than any other term, despite the fact that the phrase has never appeared in any official marketing literature from either the search engine or T-Mobile.
Because of this, the top ten search results for 'google phone' did not include any of the official G1 sites, with one-third of all organic click-throughs going to fan site google-phone.com and the others to news and informational sites.
However, Mr Seymour noted that searches for the G1 still failed to match those for Apple's iPhone.
"Searches for the top term for the G1 ('google phone') rose dramatically last week after launch, but didn't quite manage to reach the level of the top term for iPhone ('iphone'), which had 16 per cent more of the search traffic to all categories," he said.
Google first announced plans to develop the Android operating system last November.
