Google remains UK's most visited site

12th September 2008

Google is still the most visited website for UK internet users, according to a new report.

The latest figures from Hitwise also revealed that Facebook has overtaken the likes of eBay and Windows Live Mail to become the second most popular online destination among Britons, New Media Age reports.

Facebook accounted for 3.04 per cent of all UK visits to websites in August while also taking a 30 per cent share of the social networking and forum market.

Other trends uncovered by Hitwise included a remarkably high number of visits to weather websites due to the particularly poor weather seen last month, as well as a 129.7 per cent annual increase in the number of visits to online video websites.

Hitwise recently released a separate report showing that Amazon UK, Argos and Play.com were the three most popular online retailers among British web users last month.
