Google saw its share of the American online search market increase further in August, according to new statistics from Hitwise.
The search giant saw 71.01 per cent of all online searches during the month, up from 70.77 per cent in July and 63.98 per cent in August 2007.
Meanwhile, both Yahoo! and Microsoft accounted for lower proportions of the market compared with the previous month and August last year, while Ask's share fell compared with July but increased over August 2007.
Breaking down the data by industry, Hitwise also revealed that search traffic to websites in the entertainment, business and finance, sports, online video and social networking categories saw double-digit rises over the last 12 months.
"Search engines continue to be the primary way internet users navigate to key industry categories," it said in a statement.
Google is currently celebrating the tenth anniversary of its founding.
