American web searches rise 3%

20th August 2008

US web users conducted three per cent more online searches during July than they did in the same month last year.

This is according to a new study by Nielsen Online, which showed that Americans made nearly eight billion searches last month.

The research also showed that more than six in ten of these were accounted for by Google, which saw 4.8 billion queries - up 16.3 per cent compared with July last year.

Furthermore, significant share losses saw Yahoo! and Microsoft fall further behind in the search league last month, Nielsen Online said.

The figures follow the release of the latest American Consumer Satisfaction Index by the University of Michigan, which showed that US consumers are more satisfied with Google's services than last year.

Google received a score of 86 out of 100 in the search engines and portals category, compared with the previous year's tally of 78.
