Google sees 70.77% of US searches

13th August 2008

About 70.77 per cent of US online searches took place on Google last month, according to new figures.

The research, carried out by Hitwise, placed Google well above the likes of Yahoo!, MSN Search and Ask in the rankings, with Google breaking through the 70 per cent barrier in the US for the first time.

It revealed that Google saw search growth of ten per cent compared with July last year, as well as a two per cent increase when analysed alongside data for the previous month.

"At least some of the growth in searches can be attributed to the growing share of visits to Google. Looking back over the past 13 months, in addition to the growing share of searches, traffic to Google has continued to increase," said Hitwise's Heather Dougherty.

Google recently attributed its 39 per cent revenue increase for the second quarter of the year to strong web traffic and high growth in international markets.
