SEO pushes up page views for LA Times

8th August 2008

A new search engine optimisation (SEO) push has helped the LA Times to achieve a record number of website page views.

About 127 page views were reported during July, up 66 per cent compared with the same month in 2007, according to a memo to staff from LA Times executive editor for interactive Meredith Artley.

She said that a combination of a sound SEO strategy, coupled with last month's big news regarding the earthquake in southern California, had helped the website to break its all-time record, as well as push up the number of unique visitors going to the site.

"Latimes.com keeps getting better at SEO, which means our stories are ranking higher in Google and other search engines. We are also performing better on sites like Digg.com," Ms Artley explained.

According to Jason Lee Miller of WebProNews, newspaper websites should enable more commenting on articles to become truly "Journalism 2.0".
