Web projects 'should begin with SEO in mind'

21st July 2008

It is worth starting a new web project with the principles of search engine optimisation (SEO) in mind, according to Julie Batten of the ClickZ Network.

The expert noted that it can be easier to conform with SEO rules while designing the website, rather than making an existing site fit such principles.

Ms Batten said that businesses should consider consulting an SEO expert at every stage of the web design, development and launch process to ensure the website is able to do as much as possible to boost its search rankings.

"A site that's been optimised for the search engines is better off in terms of search positioning than a site that hasn't," she remarked.

"However, the way in which the optimisation is undertaken - most importantly the timing - can significantly influence a website's ability to achieve search engine success."

PJ Fusco also recently wrote on the ClickZ blog that an optimal search engine marketing strategy includes three pillars - overall site architecture, content and internal and external links.
