Companies concerned about online brand representation have been advised to take advantage of Google's Alert function.
According to E-consultancy, establishing a Google Alert for a company's name can help executives monitor their web reputation.
Firms can immediately be informed when they are mentioned in a blog or news stories and respond to any issues in such forums.
Other tips for web brand management included brand promotion on social media sites like LinkedIn and Facebook, photo sharing on Flickr - which has a high Google ranking - and writing useful, good quality content.
Such strategies are useful search engine optimisation tactics and can help firms avoid negative online press, the website recommends.
"What you can do is to try to populate as much of the first page of Google as you can with more positive or neutral mentions of your brand," the blog notes.
In related news, Google recently updated its related search suggestions to make the process "fresher".
