Brits 'go online for Euro 2008 action'

12th June 2008

More Brits are searching for updates on the Euro 2008 competition as the tournament gets into full swing, a new report indicates.

According to new Hitwise figures, both sports retailers and Euro 2008 websites are experiencing a boost in traffic as users log onto the internet for news on the progress of the event.

Robin Goad writes on his blog for Hitwise that terms such as 'man utd' and 'liverpool fc', which usually top the list of football search queries, have been overtaken by searches for 'euro 2008'.

And sports retailers, which have been enjoying an upward trend since last Christmas, recently saw their most successful periods of UK traffic, Mr Goad adds.

The Times recently advised football fans that the internet offers a variety of Euro 2008-related options, including blog updates and the opportunity to watch online video replays of matches and goals.

Fans may find themselves so tempted by the information they find online that they want to book last-minute flights or accommodation on the web in order to watch games live, the newspaper added.
