Firms urged to maximise Yahoo! open platform

4th March 2008

Companies can now incorporate more detailed information about their company into their Yahoo! search results, it has been announced.

On the Yahoo! Search Marketing Blog, it is noted that reviews, prices, photos and other consumer-facing information can now be incorporated into the details that appear against firms' names on search engines.

The blog post offers the example of the Higuma Japanese Restaurant, which replaced the standard snippet of content on its search results with a contact number, four star review, address and picture.

Marketers are advised by Yahoo! to begin considering how this open platform can help them achieve their project aims.

"Because the platform is open it gives all website owners - big or small - an opportunity to present more useful information on the Yahoo! Search page," notes Vish Makhijani, senior vice-president and general manager of Yahoo! Search, on the Yahoo! Search blog.

According to Graham Charlton on a blog for E-consultancy, contact numbers can reassure customers that companies can be trusted.
