SEO 'not a magic trick'

7th February 2008

The creation of lucrative online business is not simple or easy to achieve, it has been claimed.

Peter Ellen, managing director of services at Maxymiser, commented on an E-consultancy blog that tricks or stunts are unlikely to help in truly successful search engine optimisation (SEO).

A good business model is a vital element in creating a well-known online reputation, he continued.

"Optimisation is not a one-off magic trick because the pursuit of excellence exists against a backdrop of fast innovation and market growth," he stated. "If you stop improving you will slip backwards very quickly."

Mr Ellen added that a firm which continuously optimises its website to adapt to industry changes will see greater returns on their investments.

Online advertising has been forecast to reach the £3 billion mark this year by market research firm eMarketer.

It also predicted that e-commerce would reach over £50 billion as UK consumers increasingly shop from home.
