Small businesses are vital to the search engine optimisation (SEO) and search marketing industry, it has been claimed.
Commenting on his Search Engine Land blog, Matt McGee, SEO manager for media firm Marchex, remarked that as large firms hire their own in-house online marketing experts, small firms are the ones who can benefit the most from expert advice.
Mr McGee claimed that finding accurate and relevant information about SEO is difficult for small businesses and they would therefore benefit from the assistance of search marketing firms.
It is "inevitable" that small companies will want to advertise themselves on the internet, he added.
He warned other SEO experts: "We need small businesses to understand what we do and to succeed when we do it for them, for our own benefit as much as theirs."
Linda Jezard, owner of web development firm Advantage Positioning, recently told the Polk County Business Journal that SEO is a useful tool for a small firm as it can become a prominent presence on the internet, irrelevant of its size.
