Firms warned not to keep their website a secret

14th January 2008

Mastering basic online advertising tactics is key to increasing web traffic, it has been claimed.

Making her comments on business and marketing publication the Internet Wonders eZine, small business consultant Michele F Richardson warned firms to ensure they have got to grips with online marketing principles in order to succeed.

She questioned why some companies would deliberately keep their website a secret by not take advantage of search engine optimisation marketing.

By not promoting a website, it may not exist, she added.

"Whatever your plan, and you must have a plan, remember that if you master basic marketing principles, you will have no problem using those principles to drive traffic to your website," Ms Richardson said.

She recommended pay-per-click advertising and article marketing as effective methods of attracting internet traffic.

There are 230,000 searches per day across all search engines, according to Wordtracker.
