Search marketing 'focus of online ad spending'

11th January 2008

Search marketing is likely to be the focus of online advertising spending this year, which is expected to top £3 billion.

According to a new report by E-consultancy, search marketing will account for the largest share of online ad spending.

At present, paid search marketing represents 57 per cent of online advertising expenditure, compared with 22 per cent for display advertising.

Karin von Abrams, author of the report, said: "Search-related advertising will remain the primary focus of the UK market for some time to come.

"And the gap between spend on search-linked and display ads will widen."

The report also revealed that advertisers spent 44 per cent more on search marketing during the first six month of last year compared with the same period in 2006.

These findings come as ZenithOptimedia predicted the internet is set to become the world's third-largest advertising medium, overtaking magazines by 2010.
