Large firms 'missing out on search traffic'

9th January 2008

Search engine optimisation (SEO) is no longer simply about web pages, it has been reported.

Commenting on his Search Engine Land blog, Dave Feldman, director of client services for search marketing firm iProspect, advised firms to optimise their press releases and also contribute editorial content to industry publications as a way of increasing search ranking.

"I still cannot fathom why large organisations are not mobilising faster when it comes to incorporating search into their overall marketing plans," he remarked.

Mr Feldman explained that companies spend a large proportion of their budget creating consumer demand but then fail to use search marketing to capture online traffic.

"This is akin to fishing with a net - with a huge hole in it," he added.

Reported by the BBC, research by the Federation of Small Business revealed that half of small to medium-sized firms have no online presence.
