'Google conducts nearly two-thirds of search'

21st November 2007

Google continues to dominate the search engine world, according to new research.

Online intelligence service Hitwise found that the search engine conducted 64 per cent of all US searches during October, an increase of three per cent from last year.

Rival search engines Yahoo! accounted for 22 per cent of the market share, MSN for seven per cent and Ask.com for five per cent. The other 49 engines included in the analysis accounted for less than two per cent of searches combined.

Key industries such as travel, entertainment and business and finance saw double the amount of traffic coming from search engines as in October 2006.

Nearly 30 per cent of all visitors to health and medical websites came via Google, the research shows.

Heath Terry, analyst for Credit Suisse, recently claimed that Google shares may increase by 44 per cent in the next year, reaching a high of $900 (£437).
