Having an online presence is of overwhelming importance to any business these days, according to the online marketer ClickMaven.
As a demographic, internet users tend to have at least some disposable income and advertising on the internet is surprisingly inexpensive, the company stated.
Research by World Wide Worx found that since 2005 the number of people on the internet has doubled and now stands at 3,996 million.
Ferdie Bester, the managing director of ClickMaven, said: "Even if you don't sell products online, you'll be missing out if people can't find you on the web.
"More and more people are using the internet as their first port of call to get information about everything from restaurant phone numbers to the weather forecast."
Mr Bester added that it is now "crucial" that businesses include having an online presence in their marketing planning.
In related news, the Internet Advertising Bureau has said it is important that businesses receive professional help when trying to boost search engine ratings.
