UK traffic to news aggregator websites has risen by more than 100 per cent in the last two years, new figures from Hitwise have revealed.
According the research company, Google News accounts for almost 30 per cent of the news aggregator market, followed by NewsNow with just over 23 per cent. StumpleUpon and Digg also appear in the top four.
About 27.2 per cent of all traffic from news aggregators went to news and media sites during August, with newspaper and magazine sites receiving more than two-thirds of these visits.
The majority of the remaining visitors went to BBC websites, Robin Goad of Hitwise pointed out on his blog.
"BBC News is currently the second most visited downstream site from the news aggregators after Google UK," he said.
NewsNow revamped its look and several of its features - including search and navigation - late last year.
