Study: Search engines popular for coupon seekers

US consumers looking for online retail vouchers are more likely to click-through to a website from search listings when they know a coupon is available, according to a new study.

Almost two-thirds of those surveyed by Simmons/Experian Research and Coupons Inc said they would do so when searching for internet vouchers, a trend that could have a bearing on retailers' search engine optimisation policies.

Meanwhile, the study also showed that 36 million consumers will look to the internet for money-saving coupons this year, a significant increase over the ten million recorded in 2005.

"A new generation of shoppers is discovering coupons on the web and printing coupons is becoming a regular part of a consumer's shopping routine," explained Steven Boal, chief executive of Coupons Inc.

UK clothing retailer New Look recently launched a new online community that makes use of voucher incentives for those who provide regular feedback on products to the company, New Media Age reports.
