A company's ranking on a search engine is increasingly becoming a measurement of its marketing efforts, it has been claimed.
Reported in the Bradenton Herald, David Spire, business technology adviser with US Computer Group, recommended that firms seek professional assistance with search engine optimisation (SEO).
He said that to achieve a high search ranking, websites must be "search engine tolerable" but that this is a constantly changing process.
"True optimisation is still a highly sought after speciality and should be left to the true professionals," he commented. "The process is not inexpensive but it's worth its weight in gold if you choose the right partner."
Adding meta elements, also known as meta data or meta tags, along with vital keywords is one cost-effective way a business can incorporate SEO into its website design, advised Mr Spire.
A study by Enquiro Research revealed that web users are not only more likely to remember a firm with high ranking on search engines, but are also more likely to associate it with the search terms they entered.
