Google search dominance slows

24th December 2007

Google continues to dominate the search engine world, with a 58.6 per cent share of the industry, according to new figures.

Research on digital media measurer comScore found that Google conducted nearly three-fifths of all US web searches during November, followed by Yahoo! performing 22.4 per cent and Microsoft conducting 9.8 per cent.

However Google's share of searches only recorded a 0.2 per cent increase on the previous month's figures, compared to 1.5 per cent growth between September and October.

The company's shares stood at $693 (£350) on Friday, following comScore's report.

Total searches in the US declined by five per cent, with Americans conducting 10 billion searches during November.

However, the firm said this decline could be attributed to the fact that there is one less day in that month, compared to October.

In addition, comScore reports: "As a result of search activity likely related to holiday shopping, eBay and Amazon sites both experienced an increase for the month with 489 million and 178 million queries."
