Some web users are being given the option to rank and reorganise the order in which search results appear on Google.
The Labs-based experiment claims to allow surfers "influence your search experience by adding, moving and removing search results."
It aims to create a more customised search experience by remembering key terms and the way in which users rank websites.
Google account members can choose to revert their listing back to the natural search results or even clear the tool completely so their flagged websites no longer appear higher up the list.
Opinions on the application remain reserved and the Register states: "Is this even remotely valuable? A keyword search is all about finding sites you haven't found in the past."
Google's profits reached £1.07 billion (£0.51 billion) during the third quarter of 2007, a 46 per cent increase from the corresponding period the previous year.
