Ker-(Bei)jing! Google to cash-in on China

5th October 2007

Internet giant Google is looking for a bigger share of the Chinese market, according to a news source in the country.

China Knowledge has reported that a survey from China IntelliConsulting Corporation found that the search firm is trailing Baidu in terms of search engine use.

It stated that Baidu is currently enjoying a 69.5 per cent share of the market compared to the 23 per cent which Google has won.

But the American firm is gaining, having already taken four per cent of the industry since the start of the year against the one per cent Baidu has managed.

And according to the company's president, Lee Kai-fu, this comes despite the fact that Google "has not done any marketing until now" but that it soon would be.

"There are many users in China who are new to the internet and many other name-brand search engines," he added.
