Google was the most popular search engine in the UK last month, according to a recent report.
Data collated by comScore shows that the US-based search engine led the British market with 28.3 million hits.
That accounted for just under 90 per cent of the total UK internet user-base and pushed Microsoft's MSN in second place.
MSN received 26.8 million hits in August, equating to just over 80 per cent of the whole UK internet audience.
In third place was Yahoo!, with 21 million unique visitors.
The figures reflect Google's status as the world's leading search engine - it processes approximately half of all search requests made worldwide.
However, in some regions it is superseded in popularity by more local portals, such as Baidu in China and Yahoo! Japan.
Google is currently attempting to convince regulatory bodies in the US and EU that its proposed takeover of DoubleClick will not raise consumer rights issues.
