SEO is a "simple concept"

Website design is crucial to improving search engine optimisation (SEO), according to one expert.

Aaron Wittersheim, president of US-based SEO firm Whoast, said that websites should be designed to appeal to both search engines and consumers,

Suggesting that good website design can make "great things happen", Mr Wittersheim said the process is a "simple concept".

"Successful search engine optimisation means understanding not only how visitors will search for you, but how search engines will find you. The key is to integrate both," he said.

Amy Kean, spokesperson for the Internet Advertising Bureau, recently said that firms often fail to make the most of online advertising because traditional marketing rules don not appear to apply, Direct Traffic reports.

Companies need to "understand" their audience and not "interrupt them" with marketing messages that are too "overt", Ms Kean suggested.

Search advertising is an "excellent" way to direct web users to a site, she added.
