Internet auction site eBay was the top company for pay-per-click (PPC) searches in the US last month, a new report has revealed.
According to Hitwise, ebay received 0.12 per cent of paid clicks, with ebay.com second with 0.02 per cent.
Home depot was third with 0.02 per cent, followed by map quest (0.01 per cent) and people search (0.01 per cent).
Hitwise's client intelligence director Anita Gandhi claimed eBay's dominance "illustrates a keen understanding of the value of buying brand terms" as it took "over 88 per cent of the online traffic generated by paid listings on the variations of the term ebay".
In the organic terms list, myspace came out on top with 0.78 per cent, ahead of craigslist (0.42 per cent), myspace.com (0.29 per cent), youtube (0.26 per cent) and ebay (0.23 per cent).
According to Hitwise research from earlier this month, eBay's website was the sixth most popular among Americans in August, while MySpace was third.
