Search engine provider Yahoo! has revealed a rise in its net profits in Japan.
According to a statement made by the firm, Yahoo! Japan saw an increase of 18.2 per cent, reflecting a shift in the advertising spending preferences of companies in the Asian country.
For the three months to June, the organisation enjoyed net profit of 19.16 billion yen (£89.99 million), compared to 16.2 billion yen for the same period last year, Thomson Financial reports.
Yahoo! Japan attributed the improved results to a change in marketing choices among firms away from conventional mediums, such as television, newspapers and magazines, to online ads.
Meanwhile, the firm forecasts achieving a net profit of between 18.4 billion and 19.6 billion yen in the three months to September.
In other online advertising news, the newly-released 2009 Search Marketing Benchmark Guide, compiled by Marketing Sherpa, revealed a 30 per cent increase in worldwide spending on search engine marketing over the last year.
