Google AdSense to distribute video clips

30th June 2008

Google is to use its AdSense program to test the viability of making advertising revenue from online video.

From September, the search giant will deploy video clips - instead of the usual static ads - of a new show from the creator of Family Guy, Seth MacFarlane, according to the New York Times.

The series, entitled Seth MacFarlane's Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy, will be made available to the target audience on thousands of websites.

Advertisers will be able to place their own ads in pre-roll, banner and other forms in and around these clips.

"What is exciting is that this is a way to monetise the internet immediately," said lawyer Karl Austen.

"Instead of creating a website and hoping Seth's fans find it, we are going to push the content to where people are already at."

In other Google news, it was today (June 30th) revealed that the search engine has signed a five-year agreement with Tele Atlas to use the latter's maps in its own applications.
