Internet advertising revenues 'up'

20th June 2008

There has been an 18.2 per cent increase in internet advertising revenues since last year, new figures suggest.

Statistics from the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) indicate that the first quarter of the year has seen revenues 18.2 per cent higher than in the same period of 2007.

As such, the first three months of 2008 represent the second-highest quarter ever, with their $5.8 billion (£2.9 billion) revenue total coming behind only the last quarter of 2007's total of $5.9 billion.

Randall Rotherberg, president and chief executive officer of the Internet Advertising Bureau, said that continued vitality was expected in the market.

"We expect growth to continue, as consumers spend more and more time online, and marketers find more - and more innovative - ways to reach them through digital media," said Mr Rotherberg.

Meanwhile, a new comScore report indicates that Google's share of core searches experienced a hike compared to April, rising from 61.6 per cent to 61.8 per cent.
