Last year saw a marked increase in the proportion of advertising market expenditure allotted to internet marketing, it has been suggested.
Figures released earlier this week by the Advertising Association indicate that advertising spend on internet marketing rose by 39.5 per cent.
The change saw the internet continue as the fastest growing medium for communicating advertising messages, taking more than 15 per cent of the overall sector.
Meanwhile, the advertising industry as a whole performed well during the year, growing by 4.2 per cent compared with 0.7 per cent in 2006.
The news is in line with predictions made by the Advertising Association in its January Long Term Advertising Expenditure Forecast.
It suggested that internet spending was set to increase from 3.9 per cent in 2006 to 12 per cent by 2019.
Such gains were part of wider growth for the advertising sector, which has the potential to grow by 37.9 per cent in real terms over the next 12 years.
