Google chairman and chief executive Eric Schmidt has reiterated the opportunities that search engine marketing (SEM) has to offer.
In an interview with Faz.net, he explained that SEM will continue to benefit from a variety of new trends, such as mobile internet.
Despite this, he expressed concern over whether current advertising methods are entirely feasible on social networking portals, as well as identifying limits to what can be done with video and display marketing.
Mr Schmidt remarked: "I believe there will be some new advertising products that will work [on social networks], but I don't think they are invented yet.
"We and others are working on social advertising products."
Companies thinking about incorporating social media into their marketing efforts should take into account factors such as design, who is creating the content and the domain name to be used, according to Search Engine Land.
