Yahoo! search marketers able to exclude more keywords

27th February 2008

Marketers are now able to exclude more keywords with Yahoo!, the company has announced.

On the Yahoo! Search Marketing blog, marketing communications managing director Roger Park notes that the move to extend the number of keywords to be excluded from 20 to 250 should help businesses more effectively tailor their campaigns.

"Identify the keywords that do not apply to your business but may be commonly used by potential customers," Mr Park advises.

He explains that while the word exclusion may have negative connotations, it can be a very positive move for a firm looking to improve conversions.

Barring irrelevant searches can help ensure that the searches leading to the site are those most likely to result in sales, he claims.

And more control can reportedly be exerted over Advanced Match traffic, with leads more likely to be targeted.

Meanwhile, the top search engine in January in the US was Google, new figures from Nielsen Online reveal.
