Google expands AdSense for video

22nd February 2008

Google's AdSense for video is to be expanded and made available to all sites in its content network, it has been revealed.

The search giant has announced that the scheme is to be moved from a YouTube-only trial to a beta programme.

AdSense for video uses the InVideo ads adopted on YouTube, allowing marketers to make a single buy at scale.

The contextually targeted text overlay ads known as AdSense video units will be auctioned too, exclusive to the initiative.

"While we'll continue to test a variety of ad formats, we believe that overlays are the best way to balance user experience with the needs of our publishers," said AdSense's product manager Ryan Hayward and publisher support Lilly Wolfson on the official Inside AdSense blog.

Publishers need to be based in the US and have English language sites to qualify for the initiative.

Recent figures from comScore reveal that Google increased its share of the web video market by two per cent between October and November, taking its portion of the sector to 31.3 per cent.
