Microsoft wants to be one of the top two competitors in the online advertising market, according to a company executive.
Kevin Johnson, president of the company's platforms and services division, claimed that the firm aims to carry out a "ten, 20, 30, 40" plan over the next three to five years, reports Reuters.
It plans to raise its proportion of the search market to 30 per cent. Data measurement company comScore recently reported Microsoft carried out ten per cent of global searches during September.
When analysing the industry competition, Mr Johnson said: "Not only do we have the technology, research and development capability to deploy, but our willingness to invest for the long-term."
He said the company also plans to increase its market share of dwelling time and number of page views. It aims to earn around 40 per cent of online advertising revenue - an increase of 36 per cent.
Microsoft stock prices reached a six-year high in the first quarter of this fiscal year, hitting $36.81. Shares closed on Tuesday at £34.46, reports the Seattle Times.
