Businesses to create Facebook profiles

7th November 2007

Companies are to be able to make their own profile on social network site Facebook.

The website is also planning to share user information to advertisers and allow advertising sharing between individual members.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said: "When people engage your page on Facebook, that's going to spread information about your brand virally through the social graph."

Each company can design their own profile, in a similar way to individuals. They can post information, music, videos, photos and design their own pages with selected applications.

Individual users of the website will then be able to sign up as fans to a certain business and the adverts will show up on their individual feeds.

Major advertisers such as The Coca-Cola Company and Blockbuster are all part of the Facebook Ads programme.

The International Advertising Bureau revealed that revenue from American users interacting with adverts reached just under $10 billion (nearly £5 billion) for the first half of 2007, an increase of 26.4 per cent from the same period in 2006.
