Affordable housing has been set as a target by a new taskforce set up in Leeds, to ensure that the city’s economy continues to grow. The working group will look at
the affects that a lack of affordable housing may have on the region,
such as hampering regeneration initiatives and holding back financial
growth.
Several plans have been submitted, including include council-owned land being
contributed in order to secure grants and private sector investment to
create affordable homes.
Councillor Les Carter commented: "Leeds is a vibrant, successful and
modern city with a thriving quality of life that will grow even further
in the future. But the lack
of affordable housing could not only seriously damage Leeds’ economic
prospects but have a severe impact on neighbourhoods and local
communities."
