In the 21st century you are what you Tweet, which means in the near future our MPs should be gaining a lot more depth due to a recent Commons’ decision. An amendment that would effectively have banned the use of social networking sites such as Twitter in the chamber was recently defeated by 206 votes to 63. In an age where MPs are increasingly looking to the digital realm to engage with their constituents and voters, the use of social media was deemed on the whole to be important. (more…)

Channel 4 Launches Site to Promote Sustainable Fashion

A new concept has been launched by Channel 4 enabling teenagers to swap and exchange clothes with friends online. The new website allows users to showcase their wardrobe to friends and choose items they wish to exchange or borrow. There is also an option to send a ‘fashion SOS’ which allows people to ask for certain items such as a black dress and red shoes for the weekend. (more…)

Can Facebook Create a Truly Global Audition?

The West End show Thriller Live has launched a Facebook campaign to find stars for both the London production and its world tour.

If you think you are a talented hip hop dancer, you have until the 17 November to upload your audition video to their Facebook page. After all the videos are submittedfans can vote for their favourite videos. The top 15 dancers will then be invited to London for an audition in front of the show’s director to win a place in the cast. (more…)

The Social Media Forest: Watch Your Words

Earlier this week, incoming Nottingham Forest manager Steve Coterrill slapped a £1000 word fine on players using any social networking sites to talk about club matters (see full story here).

Although I can see what Coterrill is trying to do here, I’m sure there will be freedom of speech campaigners everywhere in outrage over this (or does this not count as they are footballers?). He is trying to build an image of the club which demonstrates professionalism which in today’s tipsy topsy world of football, is pretty hard to do. Individuals are in the media spotlight continuously, so everything they do is scrutinised and more often that not, distributed on Twitter. It’s commendable what he is trying to achieve here, but surely a set of guidelines would be better in this case. (more…)
