Additional Sitelinks in PPC Adverts

Google announced in June that you can now try to get 6 Sitelinks into your sponsored adverts at one time. However, this is only focused on terms with really high click-through rates, so will mostly affect brand terms.

It appears to be another step that Google has taken to help brands have a stronger presence on the search engine results because that is what the search engine believes people want; it has been like this for SEO for a while now and many of the changes made to the search results are suggesting this is the case. Are we Lost in Google Translation?

Following on from my previous post in 2010, where I looked at the value of various apps in the market place, I thought now was a good time to reflect back – an eighth month review if you will.

My clear favourite was Google Translate, simply because it had a very tangible benefit for me on my travels – it helped me communicate my nut allergy to waiters of any nationality due to my inability to speak any language other than English and my lack of willing to learn any either. After some hairy situations in Morocco, where everything was cooked in nut oil in 2006, I rather melodramatically ruled out much of the world from my future travel plans. But then I downloaded the Google Translate App and I was pretty excited at the prospect of being able to communicate to waiters; this allowed me to eat, travel and still live, all with minimum fuss. Take Advantage of Google Related

Google Related, the new toolbar add on for Chrome, appears at the bottom of your screen to make related suggestions. The toolbar, which appears across the web, suggests similar and related information to help you with your search query. As one example, I searched for restaurants in Leeds and visited Blackhouse Restaurant and Bar. Whilst browsing the website, a small bar appeared at the bottom of the page showing me a number of options from a map of the restaurant, four reviews, six related places and five website alternatives. Google Study: 89% Uplift from Paid Search Clicks

I recently came across some interesting research by Google that shows the incremental click increase generated from paid search advertising. Overall the study suggests that a click uplift of 89% is generated by paid search advertising, which is much higher than I expected.

Of course, this study does not account for every circumstance, and openly points out those situations where paid and organic ads sit in close proximity; the uplift to clicks is minimal. (more…)

Google Set to Buy Motorola for £7.6bn

Google has agreed to purchase smartphone business Motorola Mobility for $12.5bn (£7.6bn), giving the company a major foothold in the mobile handset and tablet markets.

The search engine giant will pay a 63 per cent premium to Motorola’s closing share price on Friday, amounting to $40 per share. (more…)
