Yesterday Google announced that they were sharing their WebGL Globe code and gave us two great interactive examples of Google Search Volume by Language and also a display of the World Population from 1990, 1995 and 2000. (more…)

As a web developer, I have to be aware of the differences between browsers, so that everyone can view my websites no matter which browser they’re using. For most people, connecting to the internet still means clicking on the big blue ‘e’ on the desktop. Microsoft’s Internet Explorer is still the most used web browser in the world. But does this make it the best?

In a word, no. Internet Explorer 6, a browser nearing its tenth birthday, is a relic, and IE7, 8 and now 9 are only just plugging a few of the gaping holes left by that browser. Three other browsers are biting at IE’s heels: Mozilla’s Firefox, Apple’s Safari and Google Chrome. All three offer something extra, but just what makes a good browser? (more…)

News about Google’s chrome operating system has been bandied around for a while now, although recently it appears to be nearing completion. The whole aim of the chrome OS project is to provide a fast, free operating system optimised entirely for web usage.

Entering into the operating system market should give Microsoft food for thought, as they have dominated this space since the introduction of windows many years ago. (more…)

This seems to be the title everyone is using since Google announced the launch of its lightweight operating system, Google Chrome OS, but it could be argued that there isn’t much meat in this headline.

Granted Windows 7 is supposed to be a modular operating system that could potentially be deployed in lightweight systems such as web books (the target for Chrome OS) but I believe windows XP will stay the preferred choice for a low cost Windows solution in a web book. (more…)

Google to release an operating system?

Since the launch of Bing, the rivalry between Google and Microsoft heated up in recent months, add that to the browser wars of Google Chrome and Internet Explorer and you can only see the competition intensifying further. Well, it just has.

Google announced on their blog that they plan to launch an operating system by the name of Google Chrome OS. It is said to be a natural extension of Google Chrome, an operating system designed to incorporate the modern day usage of the internet and set a new standard of operating systems.
