Here at Epiphany, we have been well aware of the lack of search engine optimisation being undertaken by the vast majority of SuperBrands for a long time now, and even continually monitor SuperBrand visibility in the Market Insights section of our website.

Last month, my colleague Alex blogged about how SuperBrands rely almost completely upon their brand name and associated terms within search engines, ignoring all product and service search traffic. It is also undeniable that we all rely on Search Engines (Google more precisely) to give us the right and correct answers to all of our queries. We hear of search algorithms being improved and refined on a daily basis or Search Engines releasing applications and gadgets to impress us and gain more monopoly. Beware of the Google Doodle

We all like a good Google Doodle, and the good ones always create a fair deal of buzz and chatter. Take the recent Pacman Doodle, it took the internet by storm and probably cost businesses a billion man hours! This is all well and good but yesterday something happened which means I will always check the doodle at 9am every day out of necessity rather than curiosity.

I think it must have been a slow day for news because the Doodle was highlighting the 71st Birthday of the Wizard of Oz. Not the 70th, not the 75th, let alone the 50th or 100th, the 71st. So you can’t really blame me for not having it on my radar. (more…)

In 2007, Google released figures stating that 73% of all online search activity was related to local content; i.e. somebody searching for “restaurants in York” or “cinemas in Leeds” as opposed to “restaurants” or “cinema”.

More recently American consumer research firm Kelsey Group in association with ConStat found that up to 97% of offline consumers now use research online to source products locally. (more…)
