I agree that some bigger companies will bring an SEO / SEM person into their web teams, but there lies similar problems.

You would only be working on a small amount (most likely linear) projects. This would result your overall experience slowly reducing and your exposure to new sites and new problems limited.

I hear what he's saying, I'm just not sure many people know what the nature of search will be in 5 years time, let alone 10!

I've booked to see a psychic and a witch doctor, hopefully they can help.

Good post there Daniel, I do think experience is one of the most important things in SEO, as there is quite a few techniques you can implement to deliver SEO and SEM services, but your experience will let you know which areas are worth investing time and effort into...

This reminds me of an interview I read yesterday where Jakob Nielsen was talking about SEO career prospects... I think in the future, big companies will try to get their SEOs in-house though... Let's see what the future holds

You make a valid point.

A lot of people have relied on the tool, let alone tool developers.

There will be a lot of people aching, and I can only imagine some of the customer service nightmares that are going to ensue.

Those who thought forward and got API contracts with providers for a pay-for service -- which I believe the keyword research industry is heading to -- those are the people that are going to thrive.

That's why NicheBOT.com has constantly been an advocate to make as MANY keyword databases available at the lowest cost possible.

I hate to sound like an advertisement board, but we give access to WordTracker, Keyword Discovery and Google that are NOT dependent on FREE services to supply results.

Anywho -- I wonder how well people planned for this after seeing what happened back in January.

It truly looks like the party is over for the O tool.

Thanks for allowing me to express my comments.

Best of success,

Jim Morris, President/CEO

Calil,

The article was specifically talking about converting clicks into sales, rather than converting impressions into clicks.

The first question would have to be - do you have Content Targetting switched on (look in your campaign settings). If so, this will give you very misleading numbers of impressions.

If you are looking at the search results on their own, then your advert isn't persuading people to click on it. Try doing the search yourself and see which adverts you would click on...

I've discussed this at length at www.epiphanysolutions.co.uk/google-adwords

Try looking there, and post again if you are still stuck...

Thanks,

Mike, apologies for not replying sooner but have just recently come back from holiday and it has taken me a while to catch up!
Thanks a lot for your message - there are loads more ideas where that came from and I will certainly stay in touch. Also a big thankyou for highlighting my article.

Great to hear that all the brains over there are on overdrive and you're creating a scalable solution. Long tail keyword research tools are becoming so important these days, as the keyword tools supplied by the search engines are getting increasingly vaguer and focussing only on reporting traffic from high volume and high CPC terms - i.e the big revenue generating terms. For all SMBs and bloggers to compete they need to be able to discover these smaller market niches and address theose audiences.

Keep in touch with us JC. We love our users, even when they are potential competitors. We'd love to evolve our product into your dream product, and in fact, we have far more ideas than we've actually deployed. We're focusing on scaling, so we can deliver at least basic HitTailing to every blogger or SMB in the world. That means leaving a few features in the wings, but we certainly understand how you'd like it taken to the next level. Cheers.
