Blogs do notoriously well in search engines, mainly because they generally contain content rich pages and are updated on a regular basis, two of the main factors that determine how well a site should rank. Google have also had a particular interest in blogs since their acquisition of www.blogger.com in 2002. Read this article for further information about the acquisition. All this means that they crawl blogs very regularly and often regard their content as highly relevant.
So with this in mind, how can blogs be used to support high search engine rankings?
Creating a number of content rich blogs on highly specific topics relating to your business will bring many business advantages as you position yourself as an authority within your chosen market. These blogs will always achieve a certain level of success within the search engines but there are ways to improve their rankings and support your main sites position at the same time.
By hosting these blogs on separate servers within vastly different IP addresses, these blogs can be linked to each other in a serial fashion where one blog links to the next without offering a link back. This way, the search engines don’t see these sites as related and they help to propel each other up the search rankings. As you build further content on all of the blogs and they move higher and higher up the rankings, the smart marketer will then create a further “one-way” link from each specific blog into the related content sections of your main site.
This is the starting point when we optimise a number of sites or blogs and the created network will help each other sustain their positions and make your main site a solid as a rock.
