What is Social Media?

Asked On: 11 May 2010

Answer

Social Media itself is an umbrella term for all the conversations and interactions that happen across the social platforms. These interactions include the likes of content (Blogs, Online PR), videos (YouTube), micro-blogging (Twitter, Facebook), images (Flickr) and audio (Podcasts).

Not every platform is right for every company. A percentage of companies may be more suited to Twitter to engage with their target audience whilst other companies may benefit more from video content or blogging on their own website. The important part is that you research your audience to see where the conversations and interactions lie and create a strategy to effectively engage to gain trust and boost brand loyalty with the aim of increasing conversions/sales in the long-term.
